Release Date Announced for Directive 8020 from Until Dawn Developers

Supermassive Games confirms the launch date for its anticipated sci-fi horror title, Directive 8020.

Supermassive Games has officially announced the release date for Directive 8020, the studio's upcoming narrative-driven horror game. Set to be released on May 12, the sci-fi survival experience will be available on PC through Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players can currently pre-order the game on consoles, with physical editions also being offered. Those who pre-order will receive a complimentary upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which includes an outfit pack, collectibles inspired by previous Dark Pictures titles, a cinematic filter pack, and access to a digital soundtrack and artbook. Featuring Lashana Lynch, known for her role in the James Bond franchise, Directive 8020 transports players to the wreckage of the colony ship Cassiopeia. The game retains signature elements from Supermassive's earlier works, including multiple playable characters, choice-driven gameplay, and the potential for character deaths based on player decisions. However, the developers have implemented significant enhancements, contributing to the extended development timeline. Having been in development since at least 2022, Directive 8020 represents a departure from the studio's previous yearly release schedule associated with The Dark Pictures Anthology series. It was initially slated for release in October 2025 but was delayed due to challenges posed by recent staff reductions. In addition to upgraded graphics, control systems, and stealth mechanics, the game introduces a new feature allowing players to rewind and revisit crucial "Turning Points" in the narrative, thus enabling exploration of alternate paths and the possibility of preventing character fatalities. For those familiar with the series, a mode that disables this rewind feature will also be available, ensuring that player choices have lasting consequences. At launch, Directive 8020 will support both single-player and up to five-player local co-op gameplay, with an online multiplayer mode set to be introduced in a free update following the game's release. This release comes three and a half years after the last installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology, titled The Devil in Me. Supermassive has indicated that Directive 8020 will be more self-contained, so players should not expect significant appearances from recurring characters like the Curator.
